Installation Instructions for VT (vertical top-in) CALIFORNIA Valves

1.Original meter set assembly (MSA) & connection to houseline stub before work has begun.

2. Turn gas off at manual valve upstream of meter. Note: If manual valve is difficult to open, contact your gas utility for assistance.

3. Loosen meter swivel.

4. Take care not to ruin gasket when removing union. Note: If gasket is damaged, call your gas utility for replacement.

5. Remove existing plumbing downstream of meter.

6. With original plumbing removed, build new plumbing from structure to meter.

7. Configure new plumbing with CALIFORNIA Valve.

8. Use telfon tape or liquid sealant on all joints.

9. Install union gasket and new plumbing from meter to building.

10. CALIFORNIA Valve must be installed level. Note: Use leveling chain to confirm that the seismic valve is level.

11. Install stablizer bracket (Unistrut or equivalent) to plumbing (within 6" of seismic valve) and secure to building.

12. Finish meter plumbing system with CALIFORNIA Valve. Note: For aesthetics, level the stabilizer bracket.

13. While gas is still off, open seismic valve. Do not open against gas pressure.

14. Turn gas on at meter inlet valve; do not use pipe wrench. Note: Open gas valve slowly to prevent damage to regulator.

15. Use soapy solution to check for leaks.

16. Apply paint to all new plumbing to prevent rust.
